Keep Going Together

March 2021

We make films because we like making films, and that means we’re often working even when we’re not ‘working’. Sometimes we go out and film to test some new gear, or because something interesting is happening locally. And sometimes we get invited to film something.

Our Creative Director Jamie Baikie was asked to help record a live performance of a song specially commissioned by Horsecross, the organisation that manages Perth’s Theatre and Concert Hall. The song ‘Keep Going Together’ was written and sung by Ian McLaren, and commemorates a year of UK venues being closed, and looks forward to them reopening and bringing people back together.

Ian and a band of local musicians learnt the song remotely and only met on the day of the recording. They had just three hours to rehearse and record the song. Working with the Concert Hall’s technical team Mark filmed this performance using the venue’s in-house cameras and edited the film at home. The film was launched on the Horsecross blog within 48 hours and the song immediately picked up airplay on local and national radio.

Mark said,I’ve shot gigs and music videos before but this was an unusual one for me: a multi-camera shoot of a live performance, in a completely empty auditorium, with everyone, including the band, social distancing. I learnt a lot!“.
